Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions? We've got answers.

What is 'Dare to be AVerage'?

It's a public awareness platform shining a light on New Zealand's issues around access to publicly funded medicines. We're using humour, and a bit of irony to show that 'average' shouldn't be the goal, but right now it would be better than where we are now.

Who is behind 'Dare to be Average'?

Medicines New Zealand. They're the industry association for innovative pharmaceutical companies operating in New Zealand.

Why use humour for such a serious issue?

Because sometimes the only way to deal with a frustrating reality is to laugh at it.

Make no mistake, we're not trying to make light of the serious issues here, but if it makes you stop and think and talk about it, job done.

Is this platform political?

Nope. We don't back parties or politicians. We're here to talk about medicines access, and why Kiwis deserve better than scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Does this issue affect me if i'm not sick?

Sure does. Access to medicines isn't just about today, but also about future-proofing care for you, your family and everyone else who might need it one day.

Where do your facts and stats come from?

From official sources, government and international data. We keep it transparent, you can check out our sources on 'The Facts' page anytime. We also update them as we put out new content, or come across new data.

What can I do to help?

Easy. Join the conversation.

Share what you learn, talk about it with friends and add your voice to the calls for change. It doesn't even have to be with us (although we'd appreciate it) there are loads of groups calling for better access to publicly funded medicines too.
